Zoom Tips and Tricks for Lecture Participants
For the PDF version, click here.
To join the meeting: A few minutes before the start time, click on the Zoom link, you will be placed in the waiting room and the moderator will admit you to the meeting when the time is right. You will have an opportunity to test your audio at this point by clicking on “Test Computer Audio.”
You may also join a meeting by going to join.zoom.us on any browser and entering the Meeting ID provided.
Viewing issues: If you are having any viewing issues, we suggest turning off your video function and/or virtual background, because they can create video lag or quality issues and take more bandwidth.
Process of lectures: At the beginning of the meeting, the moderator will introduce the speaker and talk about the process of the meeting. Then the speaker will give their lecture and all participants will be muted. During that time, you can post your questions to the moderator in the Chat function (the button at the bottom on your screen that is called “Chat,” see graphic below). When the lecture is complete, the moderator will allow participants to unmute themselves so they can ask the speaker questions. Please note: in order to unmute yourself, you must click on the unmute button (the moderator cannot unmute you directly).
Change View (see graphic below): We recommend Speaker View. You can change from Gallery View (seeing all meeting participants displayed in smaller boxes at once in a grid view) to Speaker View (seeing the current speaker’s video prominently) by clicking on the View Icon in the upper righthand corner of the screen.
