Director’s note:
Alan Watts archivist Henry “Sandy” Jacobs invited me to his home in West Marin in 2010 where I purchased a collection of Alan Watts recordings. We became good friends and he soon introduced me to his eccentric neighbor and architect of his house Daniel Liebermann. Katrien Vermeire and I followed them from 2012 to 2015. Sandy and Dan passed away in 2015 within five weeks of each other.

Sunnyside is a portrait of these two extraordinary old men, both influential artists in the 1950s and ’60s. Ninety-year-old sound artist Henry “Sandy” Jacobs seizes the day and is wary of words. Anchored in the here and now, he finds wisdom in insecurity. By contrast, the architect Daniel Liebermann (who studied and collaborated with Frank Lloyd Wright on the Marin County Civic Center) dwells in the realm of memories and unfulfilled dreams. Carbon was born in Ostend, Beligium, and lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
